Potassium superoxide, KO2 (CAS 12030-88-5), is a yellow solid that releases oxygen and absorbs carbon dioxide when it reacts with moisture and exhaled breath.
Its main use is as the oxygen source in chemical oxygen generators, rebreathers and self-contained breathing apparatus, including equipment used in mines, submarines and spacecraft.
It is a strong oxidiser and reacts vigorously with water. Keep it sealed, dry and away from organic and combustible material.
