Potassium peroxide, K2O2 (CAS 17014-71-0), is a yellowish inorganic solid formed when potassium metal reacts with oxygen. It is a strong oxidising and bleaching agent.
It reacts with water to give potassium hydroxide and oxygen, and is used as an oxygen source and oxidant in specialised chemical work.
It reacts violently with water and can ignite combustible material. Store dry, sealed and away from organics and heat.
