Calcium acetate is the calcium salt of acetic acid. Calcium acetate is used in food processing for several physical and technical effects. Calcium acetate is naturally present in many fruits and is . present in fermented products through bacterial fermentation.
Test Solution Weigh 2.0 g of Calcium Acetate into a 100-ml beaker, add 20 ml of diluted hydrochloric acid, and dissolve it by ultrasonic agitation. Evaporate to dryness, and dissolve the residue in 20 ml of water.
Calcium acetate is used to treat hyperphosphatemia (too much phosphate in the blood) in patients with end stage kidney disease who are on dialysis. Calcium acetate works by binding with the phosphate in the food you eat, so that it is eliminated from the body without being absorbed.
