A corrosion inhibitor is added to water, steam, acid or a process stream to slow the attack on the metal it touches. Which one works depends on three things: the metals in the circuit, whether the water is open to air, and the temperature. We stock the range below in Barka and deliver across Oman, from Muscat and Sohar to Duqm and Salalah.
Closed cooling and chilled water. Chiller loops, district-cooling circuits and engine jacket water lose little water, so the inhibitor stays in the system. Nitrite and molybdate are the usual treatments for steel. Molybdate is preferred where the loop mixes metals, and its lower dose keeps conductivity down. Copper and brass need their own inhibitor; benzotriazole-type azoles are a common choice.
Open cooling towers. Aerated water with constant make-up and blowdown needs an inhibitor that is dosed continuously, together with scale and biocide control.
Boilers and condensate. Oxygen is removed first with a scavenger (see Oxygen Scavengers). Volatile neutralising amines such as cyclohexylamine go over with the steam and protect the condensate lines from acid attack.
Oil and gas. Flowlines, coiled tubing and gas compressors see CO2, H2S and brine. Film-forming inhibitors, including imidazoline types, lay a barrier on carbon steel.
Acid cleaning. When boilers, exchangers or evaporators are descaled with hydrochloric acid, an acid inhibitor in the bath lets the acid remove scale without eating the steel.
Marine. On a ship the same split applies: closed-loop inhibitor in jacket water and central coolers, oxygen scavenger and amine in the boiler, acid inhibitor when the evaporator is descaled.
