Ammonium Bisulfite Oxygen Scavenger is a high-performance, water-soluble oxygen scavenger formulated for the rapid removal of dissolved oxygen from industrial and oilfield water systems. The product is based on ammonium bisulfite (NH₄HSO₃), which reacts with dissolved oxygen and converts it into stable, water-soluble sulfate compounds.
Dissolved oxygen is a major contributor to pitting and general corrosion in pipelines, injection systems, process equipment and water-handling facilities. By reducing dissolved oxygen concentration, Ammonium Bisulfite Oxygen Scavenger helps minimize oxygen-induced corrosion and improves the reliability and service life of associated equipment.
The product is particularly suitable for oilfield injection water, produced-water treatment, seawater injection systems and other industrial water circuits where effective dissolved-oxygen control is required. Its completely water-soluble liquid form allows convenient continuous dosing and rapid distribution throughout the treated system.

Oxygen Treatment scavenger is a class of chemicals added to react and remove oxygen in water to protect against oxygen induced corrosion. The use of Ammonium Bisulfite as a chemical deoxygenator is economical within certain limitations imposed by the dissolved oxygen content. Ammonium Bisulfite is relied on as the sole means of oxygen removal. Generally, costs are balanced by removal of as much of the oxygen as feasible by mechanical means, e.g. deaerator and by using Ammonium Bisulfite to react with the residual oxygen.
To prevent corrosion and pitting it is desirable to feed the Ammonium Bisulfite.
Theoretically, 7.88 pounds of RXSOL-81-6119-220 are required to remove one pound of oxygen. The efficiency of the oxygen removal is estimated at 75 per cent to allow for oxidation in contact with air, blowdown losses, etc. Therefore it is estimated that 10 pounds of RXSOL-81-6119-220 are required for each pound of oxygen removed (or 10 ppm RXSOL-40-5023-210 per 1 ppm dissolved oxygen.)

The product provides rapid dissolved-oxygen removal, is completely water soluble, and can be readily incorporated into continuous chemical-injection programs. Effective oxygen control helps reduce pitting, corrosion-product formation and deterioration of carbon-steel pipelines and equipment, while complementing corrosion inhibitors used elsewhere in the treatment program.
For an RXSOL-branded product, a suitable product designation would be “RXSOL Ammonium Bisulfite Oxygen Scavenger 40%” if your finished product contains approximately 40% active NH₄HSO₃.
HANDLING, STORAGE AND PRECAUTIONS :
RXSOL-81-6119-220 is mildly alkaline in nature. Normal precautions should be taken while handling solid powders. In case of contact, wash with water. Do not swallow.
RXSOL-81-6119-220 should be stored in a dry condition. Close the container tightly to avoid contact with air.

The most common oxygen scavengers in oilfield production are sodium bisulfite (SBS) and ammonium bisulfite (ABS). Ammonium bisulfite is more water soluble than sodium bisulfite and typically react with oxygen faster. However, ammonium in the ammonium bisulfite can promote bacteria growth.
Being a salt of a weak acid and a strong base, sodium bisulfite forms a significantly basic aqueous solution whereas ammonium bisulfite is only slightly basic at around pH 8. As a rule of thumb, 60ppm of 65wt% ammonium bisulfite is required to reduce the oxygen concentration in water from 9ppm to 50ppb.
The reaction of bisulfite with oxygen is typically faster at higher temperatures and can be facilitated by transition metal ion catalysts, e.g. Cobalt.

Ammonium bisulfite is soluble in water. It is noncombustible. It is corrosive to aluminum. It is a strong irritant to skin and mucous membranes. It is toxic by skin absorption.
Ammonium Bisulfite Oxygen Scavenger is normally applied by continuous chemical injection into the water stream at a point that provides adequate mixing and sufficient contact time before the water reaches oxygen-sensitive equipment.

For best results, dissolved oxygen should be monitored before and after treatment, and the chemical feed rate adjusted accordingly. A slight excess over the theoretical oxygen demand is generally maintained to provide a scavenger residual and compensate for oxygen ingress downstream.
The product may be injected neat or suitably diluted with compatible water, depending on the dosing equipment and operating requirements.
