Sodium acetate anhydrous is used as an electrolyte replenisher in isosmotic solution for parenteral replacement of acute losses of extracellular fluid without disturbing normal electrolyte balance. Sodium acetate is an organic sodium salt.
Sodium acetate is used as the carbon source for culturing bacteria. Sodium acetate is also useful for increasing yields of DNA isolation by ethanol precipitation.

This paper proposed a novel Sodium acetate trihydrate (SAT) -Acetamide (AC) -micron/nano Aluminum nitride (AlN) composite phase change material (CPCM) with a melting point of 47.3 °C for solar-heat pump implementation.
