Overview

Potassium chloride (KCl), 99%, for fertilizer use and oilfield shale inhibition, 50 kg bags.

Product description

Muriate of potash (MOP) is the fertilizer name for potassium chloride, KCl (CAS 7447-40-7). It is a white crystalline salt that occurs naturally as the mineral sylvite.

It is the most widely used potassium fertilizer. In oilfield work the same salt is used as a shale inhibitor in water-based drilling fluids and to make KCl brines for drill-in, completion and workover fluids. The record lists 99% purity in 50 kg HDPE bags.

We keep stock at our Barka warehouse and deliver across Oman, including Muscat, Sohar, Salalah and Duqm. Send the quantity and pack size you need and we will quote.

Applications

• Primarily used as a shale inhibitor as the potassium ion exchanges with calcium and sodium ions in the interlayer space in illites and smectites, converting them to more stable mica-type structures that do not hydrate and swell.
• Used to prepare brines for drill-in, completion, and workover fluids
