Epichlorohydrin (ECH), C3H5ClO (CAS 106-89-8), is a colourless, volatile liquid with a chloroform-like odour. This is a 99% AR (analytical reagent) grade.
Industrially it is the main raw material for epoxy resins and is also used to make synthetic glycerol, elastomers, water-treatment polymers and wet-strength resins for paper. In the lab it is a reactive building block and cross-linking agent.
It is toxic, corrosive and a carcinogen (EU category 1B). Handle in a fume hood with suitable gloves and eye protection.
