RXSOL Chlorine Powder is a widely used chlorine compound that is highly effective against bacteria, algae, slime, fungi and other harmful and objectionable micro-organisms. Since chlorien powder as a solution is a very efficient killer of virtually all bacteria, algae and other objectionable micro-organisms, it is used as a standard for comparison testing of other sanitizing chemicals. Whilechlorine powder is used primarily to chlorinate swimming pool, spa and hot tub water, and to treat water supplies and sewage, it is also frequently used as a bleaching agent and sanitizer in industrial applications.
This chlorine powder is granular calcium hypochlorite, Ca(OCl)2. Our product data gives about 73% calcium hypochlorite and a minimum of 70% available chlorine, the balance being soluble salts. It is a different chemical from sodium dichloroisocyanurate (SDIC) and trichloroisocyanuric acid (TCCA), which we list separately.
Where it is used: sanitising swimming pools and spas, disinfecting drinking-water tanks and supplies, sewage and effluent disinfection, and general bleaching and sanitising. Commercial calcium hypochlorite usually runs 65–73% purity. Because it leaves calcium behind, sodium hypochlorite is often preferred where water hardness matters.

Both are based on calcium hypochlorite, but strengths differ. Compare products on available chlorine, not on the name; this grade is 70% minimum.
At 70% available chlorine, about 1.5 g of product per cubic metre of water raises chlorine by roughly 1 ppm. The level to aim for depends on the use, so follow your pool or health-authority guideline and test after dosing.
Each dose adds calcium. If hardness keeps rising, switch part of the dosing to sodium hypochlorite.
