Overview

Activated MDEA amine solvent for removing H2S and CO2 from gas streams.

Product description

Activated MDEA is a gas-treating solvent based on N-methyldiethanolamine (CAS 105-59-9), a tertiary amine, with an activator added to speed up CO2 absorption.

It is used in amine units to remove H2S and CO2 from natural gas, refinery gas and synthesis gas (gas sweetening). Plain MDEA is selective for H2S. The activated form also removes CO2 efficiently, with lower regeneration energy and less corrosion and degradation than primary amines.

The record lists 230 kg plastic drums and 1,150 kg IBCs.

Supplied from Barka to customers across Oman. Tell us the grade, quantity and delivery site and we will send a quote.

Applications

Methyldiethanolamine is used as an intermediate in the synthesis of numerous products. Its unique chemistry has resulted in its use in diverse areas, including coatings, textile lubricants, polishes, detergents, pesticides, personal-care products, pharmaceuticals, urethane catalysts, and water-treatment chemicals. Methyldiethanolamine is also used in gas treatment.

Dosage

Methyl Diethanolamine MDEA-based solvent designed for the selective removal of H2S from H2S and CO2 containing gas streams. The removal of sour or acid gas components such as hydrogen sulfide (H2S) or carbon dioxide (CO2) from gas streams is a common process, known as acid gas removal or gas sweetening. These impurities have to be eliminated or reduced to a specified level, for a variety of reasons: toxicity (H2S), corrosiveness of the gas, low caloric value, environment or other reasons depending on the application of the gas.

Remarks

Features and benefits

  • Degradation resistance
  • High solvent loading
  • Low energy requirement for regeneration
  • Low corrosiveness
  • Low solvent make-up
  • Selective H2S removal

Compatibility and solubility: methyldiethanolamine mixes with water in all proportions and dissolves in most organic solvents. It behaves as both a tertiary amine and an alcohol, and forms salts with acids. It is stable at elevated temperature but must be kept away from oxidants and acids.

Amine analysis: lean and rich amine samples can be analysed for free and bound amine, acid gas loading, foaming and metals to find the cause of foaming, corrosion or off-spec gas. Sample kits are available on request.

Packaging: bulk, plastic drums (230 kg net), IBC containers (1,150 kg net).

Storage: avoid copper and copper alloys. Bulk storage needs a nitrogen blanket to prevent moisture pick-up and discoloration.
