Sulfamic Acid is a Zwitterion, a molecule with two charges that counteract each other, the Nitrogen and Oxygen have a greater pull on the bond pair of electrons due to the high electro-negativity, this causes the bond to be polar, the Nitrogen and Oxygen draw the electrons closer and become slightly negative, the Hydrogens become positive because the negative electrons are further away.
Grades of Sulphamic acid as a descalant:
The GP grade of Sulphamic acid:
The GP grade may be used for removing scales obtained from water in heating and cooling systems e.g. boilers, heat exchangers, condensers, jackets and coils.
The SR grade of Sulphamic acid:
This formulation is recommended for scales containing high silica. Typical examples are scales found in caustic evaporators in the Aluminum industry and black liquor evaporator in the pulp industry.
The RXSOL TM grade of Sulphamic acid: SUPERIOR BLEND of Corrosion inhibitor
This formulation is recommended for removal of scales from heat exchangers made of Titanium metal. We provide Sulfamic Acid descalant that has scale solubilizing capacity and added corrosion resistance blends which offer maximum protection to metal of equipment being cleaned. CHEMICAL STAGE :
A strong crystalline acid, Sulfamic Acid is also known as an intermediate compound between Sulfuric Acid (H2SO4), and Sulfamide (H4N2SO2) and a dry, non-volatile, non-hygroscopic, odorless, white crystalline, stable acid, moderately soluble in water that forms strongly acidic aqueous solution, comparable in acidity to the common strong mineral acids.
In industrial water systems, scale accumulation is a persistent problem that can reduce heat-transfer efficiency, restrict water flow, increase energy consumption and accelerate equipment deterioration. RXSOL Sulfamic Acid Inhibited is an inhibited acid descaler formulated for the controlled removal of mineral scale and deposits from industrial equipment.
Sulfamic acid is widely used as an acidic cleaning and descaling agent for metals and ceramics. Its aqueous solutions can dissolve carbonate and other mineral deposits while generally offering lower metal attack than some stronger mineral acids.
What Is RXSOL Sulfamic Acid Inhibited?
RXSOL Sulfamic Acid Inhibited is a sulfamic-acid-based descaling chemical containing corrosion-inhibiting chemistry. The inhibitor is important because acid cleaning must remove mineral deposits while minimizing unnecessary attack on the underlying metal.
RXSOL identifies the product as RXSOL-43-1304-125, with an active-matter specification of approximately 95-96% for the inhibited sulfamic-acid product.
The product is supplied as a dry crystalline material that dissolves in water to produce an acidic cleaning solution.
How Does Sulfamic Acid Remove Scale?
Many industrial deposits contain calcium carbonate and other mineral salts. When sulfamic acid contacts acid-soluble scale, the deposits react with the acid and are converted into soluble sulfamate salts and other soluble products.
This allows the hard mineral layer to progressively dissolve and detach from the equipment surface.
Sulfamic acid is particularly useful for carbonate and certain sulfate-containing deposits, and technical references note that it can be more effective than hydrochloric acid for some sulfate scales.
Why Use an Inhibited Form of Sulfamic Acid?
Using an acid without corrosion protection can result in unnecessary metal loss during descaling.
Research into sulfamic-acid cleaning has demonstrated that metals such as mild steel, aluminum, copper and brass can undergo corrosion in sulfamic-acid solutions, while suitable inhibitor systems can substantially reduce this attack.
The corrosion inhibitor in an inhibited formulation is therefore intended to provide an additional layer of protection while the acid performs the descaling process.
This makes inhibited sulfamic acid particularly useful for circulation cleaning and immersion cleaning of industrial equipment, provided that the metallurgy, temperature and concentration are appropriate.
