Product description

Sulfamic Acid Manufacturer and Supplier

Sulfamic Acid

Sulfamic Acid, also known as Amidosulfonic Acid / Sulphamic Acid, is a water-soluble inorganic acid widely used for industrial descaling, acid cleaning, boiler cleaning, heat exchanger cleaning, cooling-system maintenance and metal-surface treatment. Its chemical formula is NH₂SO₃H and its CAS Number is 5329-14-6. It is normally supplied as a white crystalline powder or crystals.

Sulphamic Acid is an odorless, white, crystalline (sand-like) solid. It is used in cleaning metal and ceramics, dye manufacturing, for stabilizing Chlorine in swimming pools, in electroplating, and as a bleaching agent.

Applications

Key Features

  • White crystalline powder

  • Water soluble

  • Non-volatile solid acid

  • Effective mineral-scale remover

  • Suitable for industrial acid cleaning

  • Useful against carbonate and other mineral deposits

  • Can be formulated with corrosion inhibitors for equipment cleaning

  • Available in industrial and higher-purity grades

Sulphamic acid is used as an acidic cleaning agent, typically for metals and ceramics. It is a replacement for hydrochloric acid for the removal of rust. In households, it is often found as a descaling agent in detergents, cleaners and toilet cleaners for the removal of limescale.

Dosage

Sulfamic Acid for Descaling

One of the most important applications of Sulfamic Acid is mineral-scale removal. It reacts with carbonate deposits and converts them into soluble sulfamate salts, helping detach and dissolve hard deposits from equipment surfaces.

For industrial cleaning, the required concentration depends on the scale type, deposit thickness, equipment material, temperature and circulation conditions. Published industrial guidance describes sulfamic-acid cleaning solutions in the approximate 5–20% range for certain scale-removal applications, but the actual cleaning procedure should be established for the specific equipment and chemistry.

Also known as

SULPHAMIC ACID, Sulfamic Acid

Notes

Sulfamic Acid is a white, crystalline, odorless solid. Harmful or fatal if swallowed. Corrosive to skin and respiratory tract. Can cause permanent damage to eyes.

Typical Applications

1. Boiler Descaling

Sulfamic Acid is used to remove hard-water scale and mineral deposits from boilers and associated equipment. It can dissolve carbonate deposits and produce water-soluble sulfamate salts.

2. Heat Exchanger Cleaning

It is widely used for removing calcium, magnesium and other mineral deposits from heat exchangers and similar heat-transfer equipment.

3. Cooling Tower & Cooling System Cleaning

Sulfamic Acid can be used for controlled acid cleaning of cooling towers, evaporative condensers and other water systems where mineral scale has accumulated. Inhibited formulations can provide improved metal protection during cleaning.

4. Condenser & Evaporator Cleaning

The acid is suitable for removing limescale and mineral deposits from condensers, evaporators and related industrial equipment.

5. Metal Cleaning

Sulfamic Acid solutions are used for removing rust, lime scale, oxides and mineral deposits from selected metal surfaces. Commercial formulations commonly incorporate corrosion inhibitors where required.

6. Industrial Cleaning Formulations

It is used as an active acid component in descaling and cleaning formulations for industrial and institutional applications.

Remarks

Sulfamic Acid is an acid and must be handled using appropriate PPE and chemical-handling procedures. Equipment compatibility should always be checked before cleaning. Corrosion inhibitors may be required for some metals and cleaning conditions. Never assume that a product is safe for every metal, coating, gasket or lining without a compatibility assessment.
