The agent provides metabolic energy and is the primary ingredient in oral rehydration salts (ORS) and is used in intravenous (IV) fluids to provide nutrients to patients under intensive care who are unable to receive them by the oral route.

Dextrose Monohydrate is the monohydrate form of D-glucose, a natural monosaccharide and carbohydrate. Dextrose serves to replenish lost nutrients and electrolytes. ... It is used therapeutically in fluid and nutrient replacement.

Product Dose

10 to 25 grams/dose (20 to 50 mL of a 50% solution) IV to restore blood glucose concentrations. In severe cases, repeat doses may be needed. Subsequent continuous IV infusion of dextrose 10% injection may be necessary to stabilize serum glucose concentrations in some individuals.

Dextrose monohydrate is sterile intravenous solution for fluid replenishment. Intravenous administration of dextrose solution provides a source of water and glucose ( sugar), giving patients fluid and energy.
